Setting up a receipt printer and automatic printing

Add a receipt printer over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, assign it to the kitchen or bar and let receipts print by themselves.

Adding a printer

  1. 1Go to Settings → Printers.
  2. 2Tap Find printers. The POS scans your Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth.
  3. 3Is your printer listed? Tap Add.
  4. 4If it is not found, choose Manual and enter the IP address (Wi-Fi/network) or the MAC address (Bluetooth).
  5. 5Pick the paper width: 58 mm, 76 mm or 80 mm. 80 mm is the usual receipt roll.

USB printers are not supported. Connect your printer to the network or use Bluetooth.

What the printer is for

Per printer you set what it does:

  • Default printer — used when nothing specific is configured.
  • Receipt printer — customer receipts.
  • Kitchen printer — production tickets.

If you work with stations (kitchen, bar, desserts), link a printer to a station or let the POS match on station automatically. Drinks then print at the bar and dishes in the kitchen.

Automatic printing

In the same screen you set when printing happens by itself:

  • Kitchen ticket on save — as soon as the order is saved.
  • Customer receipt on payment — as soon as the bill is settled.
  • Receipt on park — when you park an order for later.

When nothing comes out

Work through these, in this order:

  • Is the printer switched on and does it have paper?
  • Is the iPad on the same Wi-Fi network as the printer? A guest network is usually walled off from the staff network — that is the most common cause by far.
  • Is the IP address still the same? Printers that get their address from the router can end up with a different one after a power cut. Give the printer a fixed address in your router.
  • On Bluetooth: is the printer in range and not connected to another device?
